Hi Frostygal, I was learning how to do swedish weaving just before we left Panama City Beach. It is simple enough to learn by yourself. The monk's cloth is cheaper in the US & i'm told you can get the needle & cloth at Len's Mills. You use Red Heart Wool. I also found instructions & a free pattern on the web. Hope this helps.

I made a blanket for my grandson's single bed with monk's cloth. A simple patern of waves. Walmart have a variety of cute paterns.
The important thing to remember with monk's cloth is to make sure you sew both cut edges before washing or your cloth will fall apart.
Good luck,

hello bijou,
you will need a yarn needle, and yes you can work on your project in the car. What i did before leaving on vacation, i cut alot of my wool in advance. The pattern should indicate how many rows of a certain length of wool you will need. I just grouped bundles of about five pieces of wool neatly folded so the wool wouldn't get all tangled and place the bunbles in a baggy.
Good luck and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Hello macon,
monk's cloth is woven material to make cushion covers or blankets with,i think it's mostly cotton.

Hello all! I have just purchased another book on Monks cloth Weaving. I have done much of this years ago on towels and now finding it hard to get this material. I did strike it lucky today as Wal-Mart had some but still not what I wanted but could use. Now as for the Monks Cloth I seen it there. It is far easier to work than the toweling as the stitches are easier to work with. I have a friend that her friend made a cushion with Monks cloth and it is simply gorgeous. My next project. Now if you go to search and type in either Sweadish Weaving, Monks cloth. huck weaving you will get all sorts of info. Also instructions. I thank everyone for their feedback and feel free to write me at my e-mail addy if you wish to....frostygal.....ann1@pathcom.com

I have been doing SW for about 5 yrs. Log on to yahoo.com and go to Swedish Weave. They have a wonderful site complete with pictures of their work. Info can be found on Swedish Weave site about an upcoming Convention.
